A Coney Island of the Mind was written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and originally published in 1958. A Coney Island in the Mind is a book of poetry which was lyric form. A couple of his pieces were written with intentions of a jazz accompaniment.
Sounds like an interesting group of poems. I enjoyed the ones that we read in class, so I am sure there are some great ones in this book as well. The jazz aspect keeps appearing, it is definitely an influential factor for the Beat Movement.

ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed reading Ferlinghetti's works as much as I did..I think he was one of my favorites we looked at this semester!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shannon many Beats use music to help their poems. I think that makes thing harder, but songs are poems just being sing with music.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting! It would be cool to find some of those recordings.
